In a previous post I discussed the wonder and amazement that is Rushmore. It is one movie that inspires me over and over again. Currently I am on the hunt for a crested blazer so I can channel my inner Max Fischer. I have yet to find one, but using the addictive Polyvore, I created an ensemble perfectly suitable for Rushmore Academy. (click to enlarge)

Men & Florals

What is it with some men and their inability to "risk their masculinity" by donning a pink or floral garment? They say "pink is for girls" when really, who decided that rule in the first place? The only reason our western culture holds on to these gender stereotypes is so that we can have easy answers. If a little boy plays with his GI Joe while wearing his denim overalls, he is a typical boy, no questions asked. When he picks up his sister's Barbie doll, suddenly all hell breaks loose. Questions of his sexuality arise and parents become worrisome.
I say, what's the difference? In this modern day world, both women and men go to war and spend time in the kitchen. So what if Barbie is grasped in the hands of a 5 year old boy? We accept tomboys, so why not the opposite? It's the 21st century, it's about time we blend the gender roles.

I Am Canadian?

I read an article in Frankie about people perpetuating their own stereotypes. It got me to thinking: what is my stereotype? I am a Canadian, and contrary to popular belief, I do not live in an igloo and have moose and beavers as pets. Occasionally I do catch myself ending my quizzical sentences with "eh?". I have been known to pour a little too much maple syrup on my pancakes, just for good measure, but I don't harvest it fresh from the red maple in my front yard. I don't say "aboot" and I don't have snowshoes. I love Tim Hortons and I hate hockey. Lacrosse is our national sport, but I know nothing about that either. I'm pale and I do tend to shy away from the sun. Overall, I like being a Canadian, whatever that means.

Stormy Weather

Love is the hardest thing. Harder than working on your latest compositional masterpiece, harder than aiming for that big job promotion. When one finds love, how do we know it is true? How do we know the other person reciprocates this love with the same intensity? And how do we know how long it will last? We can't read the stars or consult an online search database. We have to feel it in our hearts. It is the thin ice you want to skate on, but you're afraid you might fall through. We are never certain we believe it, but it's all we dream of. It's a stormy day outside, but I want to jump in.

Floral Explosions!

When life gives you lemons, you squeeze them. When life gives you a wonderful dress, you wear it, no matter the heat. This summery garment is polyester down to every last hem and strand. Just perfect for a day when you really don't need your sweating skin to breath but you want it to look damn fine.

Sway With The Wind

So my shopping adventure with my friend went semi-well. We went to Urban Outfitters first, where I picked him out some nice clothes, 2 of which he purchased (a heathered tee and an argyle sweater). Then every other store didn't really work too well. It is hard when you are so into shopping and you are with someone who is not. But at least he got a taste of what was out there.

I promised myself I wouldn't get anything this time around, but I did. I couldn't resist! Black Market was having a 50% off sale, so I just HAD to purchase a black leather purse with suede patches, and a blue and yellow floral dress. I was also with my mom earlier, and we purchased some really great sandals. I know I am behind on showing all my purchases, but photos will come soon, as well as replying to all your wonderful comments.

A Melody Softly Soaring Through My Atmosphere

I'm going shopping with one of my guy friends today. He wants me to take him to any store I like, pick out clothes for him, and he will try them all on. I don't know if this will go horribly awry or wonderfully right. Only time will tell. Also, I bought a pair of amazing headphones that I will share with you all very soon. I love them!

Aire-Flo

A few of my blogger companions are on what they call 'shopping bans'. I personally don't know how they have the will power. Shopping is how I spend my days (not to mention my money). Just last week I went shopping and spent almost my whole paycheck on a vintage 60s purse, an American Apparel bodysuit, a 60s dress, and a lovely cameo brooch. I shouldn't complain about how much I shop, though. It's what I do. It keeps me entertained and I have loads of fun doing it. Shopping is a girl's best friend.

Through the Looking Glass

Being out in the sun and frolicking is what summer time is for. Just being free and one with your own self, as well as spending time with the ones you love.

But the black kitten had been finished with earlier in the afternoon, and so, while Alice was sitting curled up in a corner of the great armchair, half talking to herself and half asleep, the kitten had been having a grand game of romps with the ball of worsted Alice had been trying to wind up, and had been rolling it up and down till it had all come undone again; and there it was, spread over the hearth rug, all knots and tangles, with the kitten running after its own tail in the middle.
"Oh, you wicked, wicked little thing!" cried Alice, catching up the kitten, and giving it a little kiss to make it understand that it was in disgrace.

I tag Paris Tarts, Sally Jane Vintage, Bi-Style, Austere, and Bohemian Musings. Have fun!

M.I.A.

Sorry for being M.I.A. these past few days. I had a load of things to do to get ready for my barbecue and then duty called at work, etc. But I am back now! Armed with many an outfit to post, and many a tag to reply to. If you recall my last post, I was worrying about what to wear to my barbecue, but I went shopping the day before and found this gem of a vintage dress in Kensington Market, just waiting for me to take home and love. An instant outfit.
